And the wheels keep turning. Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green will be reclaiming their seats as coaches for the fifth season of The Voice, NBC confirmed in a statement on Friday, May 17. The switch-up will reunite the two veteran coaches with Blake Shelton and Adam Levine, who will be returning for another go in their swivel chairs.
“We locked in a plan several months ago to have the outstanding Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green rejoin Blake and Adam for cycle 5, and we’re pleased to announce that the original four coaches are going to be back together in the fall,” Paul Telegdy, President of Alternative and Late Night Programming, said in the release. “They’re the reason this show was launched so strong for the first three cycles and we owe them a debt of gratitude.”
“And after careful consideration of everyone’s schedules for next spring, we are excited to be returning the current cycle of judges — Shakira and Usher along with Blake and Adam — for cycle 6, which will premiere after the Winter Olympics,” he continued.
As Us Weekly previously reported, Shakira is hoping to take a season off to spend time with her infant son, according to a source. NBC adds that Shakira will also be working on her upcoming album during her time off from The Voice.
Usher is similarly taking the fall off in order to focus on his own personal projects, including an eighth studio album, as well as a role in upcoming film Hands of Stone opposite Robert De Niro.
“We’re very fortunate to have these six incredible artists to weave in and out of the show as their performing and recording schedules permit,” NBC Entertainment Chairman Robert Greenblatt said in a statement. “The show has taken off largely due to the rapport and commitment of these great coaches, in addition to the expert hosting of Carson Daly.”

Aguilera and Green initially announced their decision to temporarily leave the franchise in September 2012, telling E! News that her departure was “bittersweet.”
“I so enjoy being a coach to my team on The Voice [and] at this point in season three, all of us coaches have truly bonded,” she said at the time. “We goof around and play around. I’m going to miss it.”

Ever since Shakira was first announced as Christina’s replacement, fans of the blond vocalists have been participating in a battle round of their own. And now that we know that both Christina and Shakira will return to their red swivel chairs within the next year, fans are more polarized than ever. While both are undoubtedly superstars, as coaches, they both have their pros and cons. Is Christina too mean? Is Shakira too nice? We’ve heard it all before. Now, we weigh in with our analysis, and you get to tell us which bombshell you prefer:
Team Christina
Pros: Nobody is questioning Christina’s vocal ability. The woman is the definition of a powerhouse, and she clearly knows what she likes in a contestant. She also has a lot to teach. She always gives really constructive criticism, and when it comes time for the coaches to perform with one another, their contestants, etc., we relish the chance to hear her sing live. Also, we love her crazy hats.
Cons: Christina does, at times, cause tension amongst the judges, and sometimes, she can come off as someone who doesn’t really want to be there. Also, we don’t love her fans (not the people, her actual fans).
Team Shakira
Pros: Shakira is intelligent, kind, and spunky, and that comes across in her interactions with the other judges. She’s witty, she knows how to laugh at herself, and the judges’ panel does seem more light-hearted with her in tow. Her passion flows out of her. You can tell how much she is invested in this process.
Cons: Now that the live shows have rolled around, Shakira’s fire is turning into more of a simmer. It feels like she doesn’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings, and instead of giving constructive criticism to contestants, she prefers to talk to them about their looks, their performance, how good they are as a person, etc. It’s great to have a heart of gold, but it’s not doing the contestants any good.

UPDATED: The original coaches will reclaim their spinning chairs on the NBC talent competition
Sparkly outfits, busty tops and funky glasses will be back on “The Voice” for Season 5.
Cee Lo Green is in advanced negotiations to return to Season 5 of “The Voice” alongside Christina Aguilera, according to an NBC executive with knowledge of the situation.
“We are not there yet, but working toward it,” said the executive.
As TheWrap reported earlier on Monday, Aguilera is already set to return next season as a coach on NBC’s hit singing competition.
Aguilera has signed her contract to return to the NBC talent competition, an individual with knowledge of the deal has told TheWrap. According to the insider, Aguilera’s return has been kept under wraps for a couple of months.
The pop diva will be paid $12.5 million for Season 5, said the executive with knowledge of the deal.
Another insider close to the negotiations said Aguilera made about $17 million when she was a coach on Season 3, which made her one of the highest paid women on reality TV. The insider said she could earn a figure as high as that again, depending on the number of hours she appeared. (Believe it or not, “Voice” coaches are paid by the hour.)
Green would not make anywhere near Aguilera’s salary. Negotiations are still underway for coaches Adam Levine and Blake Shelton, who are also expected to return, the insider said.
For comparison, Mariah Carey currently makes a reported $18 million on Fox’s “American Idol” and Britney Spears made a reported $15 million on “The X Factor.”
Aguilera announced that she was leaving “The Voice” last December to promote her “Lotus” album and tour. Cee Lo Green also announced his exit at the same time. Shakira and Usher replaced them on the current season.
At the time, executive producer Mark Burnett played down the departures, saying that he expected that his coaches would rotate in and out as they are working artists. He also said they were always welcome to return. Shakira is likely to return in a future season.
“The Voice” has quickly risen to the top of the reality talent show ranks over its past four seasons. Last year, it took “Idol’s” spot in the Emmy race, replacing it among the nominees in the Outstanding Reality Competition category.
In April, it reached a ratings milestone when its two installments took the top two slots for the week in both the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic and in total viewers for the first time in the series’ history.
“The Voice” airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8 p.m./7c on NBC.

Fuiste ave de paso
y no se por que razĂłn
me fuĂ acostumbrando cada dĂa mas a tĂ
A slew of celebrities descended upon New York’s Lincoln Center on Tuesday night (Apr. 23) to celebrate the TIME 100 list of the Most Influential People in the World, and musical artists like Frank Ocean, Justin Timberlake and Miguel were among those gracing the red carpet. Christina Aguilera — who was honored in a short essay by fellow diva Celine Dion — was also in attendance, looking remarkably svelte in a black Victoria Beckham dress.
The 32-year-old singer and “Voice” coach showed off a slimmer figure while sporting an unfussy look that was highlighted by some Lorraine Schwartz bling. Aguilera also performed “Lady Marmalade” during the star-studded ceremony.
“The first time I heard Christina Aguilera sing, I was totally blown away,” Dion wrote in her essay, released in the annual TIME issue earlier this month. “Without a doubt, she’s one of the most talented artists the world has ever seen and heard, and I think she’s going to continue to amaze us for many, many years to come.”
Aguilera released her fifth studio album, “Lotus,” last November through RCA Records.

Christina Aguilera cancels her induction performance for Donna Summer on short notice, due to an illness. Christina Aguilera Cancels on Inducting Donna Summer into Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
Powerhouse vocalist Christina Aguilera was set to induct Donna Summer into the 2013 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on Thursday night, but cancelled at the last minute. Aguilera, was supposed to join Jennifer Hudson in performing “Bad Girls” and “Last Dance” in honor of Summer’s legendary musical career. X-Tina, however, cancelled due to a high fever and upper respiratory infection.
Thankfully, R&B singer Kelly Rowland took her place and sung a few lyrics to “Love To Love You Baby”. She graciously acknowledged the disco queen saying,”Her words remind us of exactly who we are…I’m pretty sure me and a lot of y’all in here were made to that record.”
How great of her to step in last minute! Canadian rock band Rush were also inducted to the Hall of Fame by Dave Grohl and Taylor Hawkins. Rap group Public Enemy, Randy Newman, blues legend Albert King, producers Lou Adler and Quincy Jones, and rock group Heart were all also inducted.
Nancy Wilson of Heart explained what the induction meant to her, “Our long and winding road has always been about the magical power of love and the enduring strength of family. We came from an era when women normally did not rock and women were not expected to be leaders.”
Heart lit up the stage with performances of their songs “Crazy on You”, “Dreamboat Annie” and “Barracuda”.
John Mayer was chosen to induct Albert King, while Oprah Winfrey was there to support the welcoming of Quincy Jones.
The 2013 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony will air on May 18 on HBO.
